MC2 AMPLIFIERS CHOSEN FOR CHESHAM THEATRE
03/11/2005

The Elgiva, a state-of-the-art theatre and cinema in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, has recently undergone a major overhaul of its audio facilities. And the theatre’s technical staff chose the versatility and clarity of MC2 amplifiers to drive the new system.

The installation was carried out by Kelco UK of Manchester. The company’s Dave Kelland explains how the amplifiers were chosen.

“Our approach is to collaborate very closely with the client,” he says. “Working with the Elgiva’s technical manager Darren Jackson, we put together three different audio systems. We then ran listening tests with each of them in the theatre. The Elgiva staff chose the combination of MC2 amplifiers and EM Acoustics loudspeakers over the other systems by a long way.”

Kelco’s method of listening test is the most effective possible, because equipment can be chosen on the basis of how it sounds in the environment that it is going to be used in. And, in a theatre like the Elgiva - where productions range from live music, pantomime, musicals and operettas to cinema films - the equipment can be subjected to that diversity of use before the client makes a choice.

Five MC2 T2000 amplifiers were chosen, which are used to power the entire stage PA and monitor system. “The big challenge for this system is that it’s such a multi-function venue,” continues Dave Kelland. “The system has to be configurable in many different ways. The T2000 amplifiers have the sonic quality and reliability to cope with everything that’s required of them.”

Dave also notes that MC2 are his amplifiers of choice, having been specifying them for over a decade. “They have a very natural, open sound,” he says. “We have a lot more theatre jobs coming up and we’ll be speccing MC2 amplifiers for all of them.”
