MC2 Audio E90 powers Pigeon Detectives tour

After the major success of their 2008 UK summer tour, Leeds indie rockers The Pigeon Detectives took to the road again for 18 further UK shows in November and December, culminating in a New Year’s Eve show at Belfast City Hall.

Promoting their latest album Emergency, having been so pleased with how it performed on the summer dates, the band again opted for WE Audio’s Turbosound Aspect® system, but this time powered by MC2 Audio’s new E90 amplifiers.

Based on MC2’s new proprietary Class D technology, the E90 has been designed to meet the demands for higher power with increased efficiency, whilst still delivering ultimate sonic quality and reliability. The E90 can deliver up to 4500w into 4 ohms and 8000w into 2 ohms, with outstanding distortion figures.

For most of the dates, the loudspeaker system comprised 24 stacks of Aspect TA-890 with TSW-218s bass cabinets, powered by the E90s and controlled by XTA DP448 digital signal processors.
“I’m even more pleased with the system than I was in the summer,” says Front of House engineer, Andy Hawkins. “It’s proved itself beyond expectations in some very tough acoustic spaces, especially in London’s Alexandra Palace.”

Here, the system was expanded to 40 TA-890H mid highs, 40 TA-890L lows and 12 TSW-218s. It was configured as 10 flown TA-890H and four flown TA-890Ls per side, with five high by four wide ground stacks of TA-890H per side, run five-way with a TSW-218. Infills were a pair of TSW-218s and TQ-445s, with Aspect TA-890H as outfills. Stage monitoring was from TFM-450 wedges with two TQ-425 drum subs and side fills of TQ-445 and TQ-425SP.

“The transition from academy sized venues to the arena sized space of Alexandra Palace went very smoothly,” continues Hawkins. “Tim McCall from Turbosound gave us some input on potential configurations and it worked out fantastically well.

“Not only were there minimal adjustments to make, but the continuity of coverage across the venue was better than anything I could have hoped for. The E90s certainly add something a bit special to the system; they are ideally suited to the TSW-218s and the types of venue we were paying.
“Overall, the combination of Aspect and the E90s has really reinforced my choice of PA and confirmed that this really is the best way of doing these kinds of venues.”

“You can point Aspect where you want to go and it concentrates on the areas you need, providing full coverage from side to side and right to the back,” adds WE Audio founder Wayne Barker.
“The E90s have made a real difference to the dynamic of the TSW-218s, really opening the system right up. It sounded like a great big hi-fi - this tour has been a big thumbs up for the combination of Turbosound and MC2.”
