MC2 Audio

MC2 Audio Ltd. has been manufacturing technologically innovative amplifiers of the highest quality for the pro-audio market for the past 10 years and is an OEM supplier to two of the top studio monitor manufacturers. Co-directors Terry Clarke and Ian McCarthy have combined their extensive experience in the audio industry with a commitment to promoting the highest standards of audio quality and reliability in manufacture.

Terry gained a worldwide reputation for design as co-founder and Technical Director of Klark Teknik. Ian's early experience was in the hi-fi side of the industry before moving into the manufacture of public address equipment in 1979 and then into professional audio in the early 1990s.

The story began in 1994 with the launch of the MC series at AES in Amsterdam. The first two models, MC450 and MC650, were in full production by September of that year and both amplifiers were received enthusiastically, being among the first in the market to be digitally controlled. The MC450 and MC650 were to set the very high standards of sonic quality and reliability for which MC2 Audio has gained a worldwide reputation, and which all products that followed would have to meet.

Two years later, in September 1996, the MC1250 made its first appearance at PLASA, London and was greeted with much enthusiasm by existing and new customers. Since that time, the MC1250 has enjoyed particular interest from the discotheque and night-club market, where it has proved itself capable of maintaining its high performance levels in the most demanding conditions.

The series was completed in October 1997 with the introduction of the MC750, offering customers a choice of amplifiers with power from 450W/channel into 4 ohms RMS through to 1250W/channel into 4 ohms RMS.

The T Series made its debut at PLASA in September 2000 with the launch of the T500 (250W/channel into 4 ohms) and the T1000 (500W/channel into 4 ohms). PLASA 2001 saw the appearance of the T1500 (750W/channel into 4 ohms) and this was swiftly followed in March 2002 with the launch of the T2000 (1000W/channel into 4 ohms) at Pro Light & Sound in Frankfurt. In response to demand from a number of customers, the T LINE was introduced and also launched in Frankfurt that same year. This 100V/70V/50V chassis is capable of taking up to four 250W/500W/750W line transformers in any combination and is for use with the other models in the T Series. The T4-250 quad amplifier (4 x 250W/channel into 4 ohms), was added to the T Series the same year, making its first appearance at PLASA 2002.

The first units of the latest addition to the T Series, the T3500 (1700W/channel into 4 ohms) flowed off the production line in the autumn of 2008 and will satisfy demand for a more powerful T Series amplifier.

The long awaited E Series, lightweight, switchmode amplifiers was first shown at Pro Light & Sound in March 2003. There was unqualified praise for the 'new-look' front panel and production of the first two models, E25 (1250W/channel into 4 ohms) and E15 (750W/channel into 4 ohms), got under way towards the end of 2003 and both the E25 and E15 are enjoying buoyant sales around the world.

ProLight & Sound 2004 saw the launch of the E45 (2250W/channel into 4 ohms in a 2U chassis). This latest addition to the E Series received huge interest from both existing and new customers alike.

Designed specifically for the touring market, the E Series has all the sonic qualities and reliability of the MC and T Series amplifiers, without the physical weight, and will bring the well renowned MC2 sound quality and reliability to an even wider range of users.

Until the introduction of the E90 in the autumn of 2008, the E Series comprised three stereo models: E45 (2250W/channel into 4 ohms), E25 (1250W/channel into 4 ohms) and E15 (750W/channel into 4 ohms) and new in 2007, a quad amplifier: E4-75 (4 x 750W/channel into 8 ohms).

The E90 (4500W/channel into 4 ohms; 8000W/channel into 2 ohms) is the newest addition to the E Series. Based on new MC2 proprietary Class-D technology, it has been designed to meet the demands for higher power with increased efficiency whilst still maintaining the renowned MC2 sonic qualities and unsurpassed reliability. Running cool even in the most difficult conditions, the E90 can deliver up to 4500w into 4 ohms and a massive 8000w into 2 ohms, with outstanding distortion figures.

Endorsement of the quality of the amplifiers is perhaps best reflected by the fact that MC2 Audio is an OEM supplier to some of the top loudspeaker manufacturers for both live sound and studio monitoring.

All MC2 Audio products carry a full 5-year warranty.

In March 2007 the merger of MC2 Audio and XTA Electronics was announced forming a group with Quested Monitoring Systems which brings together three of the most well known English professional audio manufacturing companies.

The new group is led by Ian McCarthy as Managing Director with Terry Clarke, Technical Director MC2 Audio and John Austin, Technical Director XTA Electronics each maintaining responsibility for their own field of expertise. Roger Quested continues to be Technical Director for Quested Monitoring Systems.

The merged group will open up possibilities for each of the individual companies to benefit from a larger pool of resources extending from research and development through to sales and marketing and clearly this new grouping opens the way for the development of a range of exciting new products across all three companies.
